Beware Conficker Worm activates April 1

Conficker first appeared in late 2008 and began making headlines in January as infections topped 9 million computers. Now in its third variant, Conficker C, the worm has grown incredibly complicated, powerful, and virulent.

 

What's known so far is that on April 1st, all infected computers will come under the control of a master machine located somewhere across the web, at which point anything's possible.

 

Solution:

·          Verify that Critical Microsoft patches are installed by visiting:

http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate

 

·          Verify that Adobe Flash is up to date by visiting:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/trigger/0/

 

·          Verify your that your Anti-virus package is activated, enabled, and up to date.

§  Impact: An attacker can execute code, potentially gaining complete control of your user's computer
